Because she's a retired hero, like what is this even really gonna be about? Is there gonna be action ala Daredevil? I'll need to see a trailer or something because I'm not completely sold on it just yet.
No such thing.
Jessica Jones is a New Avenger... or I guess a Defender in the MCU.

Quote:
Following a tragic end to her brief superhero career, Jessica Jones tries to rebuild her life as a private eye, dealing with cases involving people with remarkable abilities in New York City.
I know, but that's just how it's gonna open... eventually she'll don a costume. She'll be forced to. That's what always happens. Otherwise she really has no business being in the Defenders.

That is true, I didn't think of it that way.
I am interested to see just how much action we'll get within the show.
"I never thought I'd do much action stuff," Colter said. "It's as close to being a black Superman as you can be!"
"Marvel actually gives you a special training class in how not to say too much in interviews [laughs]. We’re in the middle of shooting AKA Jessica Jones and Luke Cage is a very interesting character who just happens to have super strength and unbreakable skin. He’s a neighborhood hero, very much linked to New York and Jessica Jones. It’s all part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but Luke Cage is a darker, grittier, more tangible character than Iron Man or Thor. He likes to keep things close to his chest, operate on the hush-hush. He has these abilities but he’s not sure how and when to use them. He’s a very nuanced character."
“Right now, I’m super excited about what’s going on with Jessica Jones,” he said, referring to the next series in line for Netflix. “Krysten Ritter is killing it. [Doctor Who’s] David Tennant is playing [villain Zebediah] Kilgrave -- believe me, when we do this again, you’ll be talking about him in the same way you’re talking about Vincent D'onofrio. It’s an extraordinary cast. People are going to finally see Luke Cage [Mike Colter] for the first time.”
“There’s lots of things of richness in there and then, as you know, we just announced we’re following that up with Luke Cage and after that Iron Fist,” he continued. “Knowing that and knowing that those characters are going to then interact with each other and knowing how unique each one of those voices are and how they approach everything differently and how they come to each situation. You’ll be shocked -- shocked! -- to find out that when they become The Defenders they actually don’t get along.”
“When I look down that road, there’s really more than enough for us to be able to do,” Loeb concluded. “But that doesn’t mean there aren’t going to be some surprises along the way.”
"Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones" comes only to Netflix later this year and "Marvel's Luke Cage" premieres on the streaming service in 2016. Future series exclusively debuting on Netflix include “Marvel’s Iron Fist” and “Marvel’s Defenders,” a mini-series event that reimagines a team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.
Same! Marvel is re-releasing new paperback editions of her series starting in September, and a book about the production of the show comes out in November. Luke Cage has a collection coming out in September too. Makes sense tbh.
