Discussion: Why did Applause stay in the top ten longer than 45S?

The amount of excuses in this thread are giving me life.
Applause only had 2 TV performances in the US and they had less viewers than Rihanna's at the Grammys.

How can you ask such a question when Applause is without any doubt one of Gagas most commercial sounding tracks (if not the most) while FFS is something Rihanna NEVER did before.
2. Gaga performed Applause on every event possible and even opened the VMA's with the song. Rihanna performed FFS ONCE.
3. FFS didn't even had a lyric video while Gaga made an event out of her lyric video
4. The "POP SUPERSTAR EMERGENY!!!!!" meltdown and early release
But I'm sleep

Lyric videos? Katy's Birthday lyric video has over 80 million views and the song flopped, that has nothing to do.
How that pop emergency helped something? if anything it ruined the release because of the Katy Perry vs. Gaga thing. Besides, if it wasn't for that, the song and the video would've dropped the same day and the song would've peaked higher.
You are so dessperate.

Lol applause is a better song IMHO but it's as generic as they come! How can monsters try and deny this when gaga herself said so! Weird lyrics have never stopped songs from appealing to the GP,see bad romance,tik tok,Macarena,who let the dogs out,just to name a few!
FFS is a folk acoustic song that us mostly arythmic. When all is said and done FFS will be remembered as Rih's risk and applause will not be remembered cuz its just number 5384729 generic dance music in gaga's catalogue!
It will also outsell applause in the end!
Monsters please let the light in and move on from all this bitterness. Yes the dragging and lashing y'all received was gloriously but it's in the past now,just like gaga's glory days!

The promo was bigger than FFS's.
FFS > Applause

VMAs = 10M viewers
GMA = 3-4M viewers
GRAMMYs = 30M viewers
Hunty, it's simple math.

Then explain to me why most artist post about their new music on their twitter?
Just for fun or to PROMOTE?
There has to be a reason behind them posting it to their millions of followers.

GMA audience + VMA audience < Grammy audience, but you do that math sis.

45s is definitely more generic than applause. Applause's production is a bunch of tacky warmed over 80s video game noises, and the lyrics are horrifically-delivered gibberish/gobbledeegook.
there's nothing non-generic about Rihanna singing about having a rough week at work, can't wait for the weekend, i gotta party now, blablabla, all over a tepid guitar strum. The song was obviously designed to be some sing-along campfire anthem, it's pretty contrived. I'm sure her writers thought every cubicle worker would be singing it in unison on wednesdays/thursdays/fridays

So petty
And no, they aren't the same AT ALL
What Gaga did wasn't just exposure, it was a downright quid pro quo measure

As proved by a member earlier, Rihanna tweeted about the single just as much as Gaga did.
So how come that gives Applause an adventege that equals 1.2M copies?
This is getting beyond embarrassing

DEATH. Rihanna's highly anticipated return and her first single with critic darlings West and McCartney should have ensured a bigger hit then what we got. Promo isn't a definitive indication of why a song succeeds. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Either way, it's shocking that Applause was called a fly by night hit/flop, but 45Secs is a hit. Also one song is a lot better then the other, IMO.

This is just an excuse. Just because it was put up against another more successful single, it really wouldn't have negatively affected Applause. If fans wanted to purchase it, they would have done, whether it was released to compete with the day after Katy's or not

Not you using some Latin in hope to make your posts more mature
Honey, please do this.
Ask yourself : What am I doing?
The answer is : I'm arguing with Monsters trying to prove Gaga's tweets are the reason why Applause did better than 45S.
Now, when you did that. How do you feel?
Ready to continue the discussion?
If the answer is yes.......
Sorry, hunty I ain't got time for this. It's just TOO MUCH

Wow not Paul McCartney whose last top ten before FFS, almost 3 decades ago not helping FFS to be a bigger hit. Or better yet not when Paul and Kanye have three other different songs which put together still didn't outsell FFS still not being enough for FFS
I mean they were the reason for the song's success anyway obviously
