Applause was designed to be a radio hit but so was FFS, I guess the first one got more promo.

FFS >>>> Applause
Rihanna actually took a risk with FFS, the song is mostly folk and unlike "Applause" wasn't tailor made for radio. In terms of promo we know who did more of it. Gagas added promo were the twitter meltdowns too her millions of followers as well. Regardless Rihanna is 10 years into her career and I'm NOT a Rih Stan.
I also think FFS will be more rembered, "Applause" has to be the most forgotten major hit of 2013 "Roar" swallowed it whole.

I still can't get over that tweet, omg

So you're saying it's enough for Gaga to spam her fanbase with tweets so she could outsell Rih's lead single?

FFS is a risky single, Applause was not.

Applause had more promo and that's a fact.

So tweeting a link which Gaga did as well, and promising your fans a chance to meet you on the condition that they buy your single and MUST show evidence of purchase by posting a screenshot are the same? Never change little monsters

Don't wanna defend Gaga but actually the fact that Applause competed with Roar and it is still bigger than 45S (in the Hot 100) Rihanna had no other major pop girl releasing her lead single at the same time, she would've dominated like always if the song was more commercial.
Anyhow, why do people think 45S is done? It is still selling!

So a few monsters buying more copies in hope to meet Gaga = the reason why Applause sold 1.2M more copies than 45S ?
Never change, Navy.

I mean more televised performances
An EDM track
A chance to meet the musician if you purchase
Just 5 years into career
After "album of the millennium" comments
And she sold just 100K more at it's 10th week, after all this bragging the little monsters did?

Those tweets all discuss APPLAUSE.
They all are promoting APPLAUSE.
How would you know exactly if those tweets didn't help some of Applause success?
Explain to me why would you tweet about a new single when you know it's "not going to help the song"?
|
tweets are tweets, promo is promo. not my rules sorry!

Debuting the video and performing it on GMA then performing it on VMA which are both big platforms for promo.
The promo was bigger than FFS's.
FFS > Applause
