Whew, I spent the past 10-15 minutes trying to logic this out without reading the solution,
and my pre-finals dead brain finally narrowed it down to July 16th

Maybe this will help for those who don't understand what happened:

This Cheryl bitch told Albert that her birthday is in July. So he knows that Bernard knows it's either the 14th or the 16th. Both of those numbers appear twice. Thus, Albert knows that Bernard doesn't know the birthday by just the day of the month.

The bitch told Bernard that her birthday is on the 16th. So he knows that Albert knows that her birthday is either in May or in July. When Albert says "IDK but what I DO know is that UDK2, Bernard," that causes Bernard to realize that the month that Albert got was one that only included days that had no repeats—July and August. Thus, he knows that the month is July since August has no 16th. So he now knows the date, July 16th.

Albert has already clocked that it's the 14th or the 16th. So when Bernard says he knows the date now, Albert realizes that that it has to be the 16th. Since he knows that Albert thinks its in July or August, his date must be one that is not repeated between those two months, and the only one is the 16th. So now, they both know.

In terms of solving it:

First you deduce that the only way Albert can know that Bernard knows is if the month he got was July or August (the logic above applies). Then you note that the only way Bernard can know after knocking out May and June is if his date isn't repeated between July and August, which is July 16th. That's it.

I thought it was saying that she told Albert and Bernard each the month and day of her birthday so it made no sense to me that they wouldn't know, the solution makes sense tho. If it was properly worded I bet I would've gotten it

it's really not that complex, just confusing.

It says 'respectively' meaning she told one the month and the other the day, in the order listed.
