Yes, there are stories of cows, mules and even donkeys protecting humans!
Like you said, domesticated dogs are
bred for companionship so they're raised having a relationship to humans. Is that the only reason not to kill them? Because they were conditioned to be close to us? Your message makes it seem as if other species only exist to benefit humans and if they don't, they don't matter.
