KROQ Weenie Roast y Fiesta 2009: TODAY!
KROQ Weenie Roast Y Fiesta 2009
Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
May 16th, 2009
Main Stage:
Weezer
Kings of Leon
Jimmy Eat World
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Rancid
Silversun Pickups
The Airborne Toxic Event
Cage the Elephant
White Lies
KROQ Bud Light Stage Dos:
Hollywood Undead
Asher Roth
Anberlin
Big B
--------------
Stage Dos this year is AWFUL with not a single good act playing. The first stage, however, is pretty great. Weezer, YYY, and Rancid are definitive must sees, and I look forward to other surprises.
Reason why this is posted, like every year, there will be a live webcast for the event. Once details are up for that, it'll be posted in the thread.
Thoughts?

Can't say I'm a gigantic fan of any of the bands playing on Stage Dog, and I'm not a big fan of the last three bands on the main stage, but I've been getting into the Pickups lately, JEW is always fun live, Kings of Leon have a ton of fun songs, Yeah Yeah Yeahs NEVER disappoint, Rancid is Rancid, and Weezer is Weezer.
I need to memorize May 16th, because I intend on making this a must see event. YEAH!

What the hell is this, Economy Crisis Edition of Weenie Roast? Only 4 bands on the side stage... I guess they couldn't afford other bands.
Rancid, Jimmy Eat World, YYY, Weezer, Kings of Leon ^_^

yeah. the fact that Green Day is playing Saturday Night Live the exact same night as Weenie Roast probably threw a wrench in their plans. But Weezer headlining is more fun for me personally, so woo!
and not to jinx it, but I still am betting that No Doubt are going to do a surprise set at some point. It's very logical as KROQ has always shown love to ND, and they've shown love back. Unless they are saving them for a blowout set at AAC.

Related thoughts:
- Looks like Rancid is now the headliner, with a "special performance" from Travis/DJ-AM following at the end.
- Weezer was the previous assumed headliner, now they are on before 5 other acts.
The webcast is all day today at: http://www.kroq.com/

I'm still hoping for a blink-182 surprise to close the show.

I'm trying to figure out why Weezer was pushed back. I wonder if it was because of their own choosing. *shrugs*

Well the first half was mostly garbage. But everything from Weezer and on should be awesome.

The Final Verdict: It was a pretty good show that started off terribly, but got progressively better, no thanks to the ****** flash player they implemented this year. Asher Roth may have been the most hilarious performance since Rob Zombie. Weezer would have been fantastic, if I could have SEEN THE DAMN PERFORMANCE. YYYs, what I saw, were cool. Same with the Pickups. Kings of Leon were pretty good. Same with JEW, though it was the same as their other KROQ performances, really. Rancid kicked ass, and TRV$DJ-AM was absolutely awesome. Travis Barker is a BEAST.
Oh, and **** the oompa-loompa douche who "hosted" the webcast.
TRV$DJ-AM > Rancid >> Weezer (just assuming that this is the case) >> YYYs > The Kings of the Place Named Leon > Pickups > JEW >>>>>>>>>>>> everyone else.
Grade for the entire show: B
Grade for the webcast: F- (was a lot worse at first)
Grade for oompa-loompa host: F-------------
Grade for the zoners: A+ (they kept me watching, somehow, someway)

Kroq of ****... I like that.
Um, to fill in the grades for you, since I completely agree with you otherwise:
Cage the Elephant F
The Airborne Toxic Event F
Weezer A/A+ with their awesome cover/remix/thing for Kids/Pokerface.
Jimmy Eat World B
Kings of Leon B-
but only because I could not stand KoL for an hour straight and JEW, I like their older songs more than their newer ones. You might have disagreed but since I agree with the rest of your grades, I thought I'd use your template for these.
Ryan - Right on with the grades for the webcast and the stupid announcer.

Time for the grades! I'm using the regular A to F scale, except one act earned an F- for being just that hilariously bad. So you know, W means withdrawal, or in other words, I didn't watch it all because they just weren't interesting.
Big B - F
Asher Roth - F-
Hollywood Undead - W
White Lies - W
Cage the Elephant - W
The Airborne Toxic Event - W
Silversun Pickups - B+
Weezer - A
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - A+
Jimmy Eat World - A-
Kings of Leon - B
Rancid - A
TRV$DJ-AM - A+
As for the webcast itself, to give it an F- would be too high. I think I'm going to have to give it an academic dismissal and expulsion. Good god that was terrible. The Flash-based player kept freezing, skipping, cutting out, and generally sucking. Even the Windows Media-based player KROQ had back in 2004 was better than this nonsense.
If that's not bad enough, the KROQ oompa-loompa douchebag (who the hell is he anyway? bring back Dude!) was terrible, and his pre-recorded segment at the end about Blink 182 closing the show wasn't even true. What an ass. Blink didn't play, as confirmed by @christina1227 on Twitter.
Luckily, quite a few good bands in the bunch this year (in the last half), so it was worth it.
