Should the US apologise for Hiroshima & Nagasaki?
Should they?
Do you feel personally guilty as an American for killing millions of innocent people?

i did my research for high school on this and we had to choose if the bombings were justified - i chose they were not however its really debatable
whats not as debatable is that japan should apologize for the rape of nanking - like that **** was inhuman to the core and yet the Japanese govt has the nerve to not even acknowledge it

No, they did Japan a favor. Many more would have died in an invasion.

I think the fact that peace was made >>.
Japan wasn't innocent itself but does that justify Hiroshima? I don't know.

But sis, the motivation was to spare American lives, not save Japanese ones. US soldiers would have FLOPPED in hand-to-hand combat with the Japanese.

if you look at all the jap govt transcript, the japs were close to days to actually surrendering - they just wanted a way to surrender without losing their pride

Oh no, they saved American and Japanese lives.
If people didn't know how destructive they were in real life, they may have been used in the Cold War, and that would be far worse.

They might as well. I mean, it's not like any harm can be done from an apology.
Honestly though, that's so far in the past that it low-key doesn't really matter. Japan has like the lowest crime rate in the entire world. Everyone there is really peaceful and calm. The society that they rebuilt is an amazing one.
The US needs to apologise to Iraq and Afghanistan. It would actually be a huge step forward as far as world peace is concerned. They should run commercials on TV (and on billboards) in the Middle East apologising for the War in Iraq and the War in Afghanistan, while calling for peace/a truce between the Middle East and the West. I know that's oversimplifying the issue, but world peace really shouldn't be this hard to achieve. We all have loved ones that we don't want to lose - especially in war - why can't we find the humanity in that and stop killing each other?
But Japanese isn't a problematic area anymore, so if the US apologises to them, then great, but if they don't, it's not like the Japanese are going to hate them until the end of time.

I'm gonna resist applauding the US' tactics for Hiroshima just because of the evil committed there and the horrible images that are very hard to forget, but I see your point. I don't think the US were at any time concerned with sparing the lives of the enemy, tho - they are famously jingoistic.

America is not the only country with blood on their hands caused by the instability in the Middle East.
The issue is far bigger and includes a lot more countries.

The Japanese literally influenced mothers holding their babies and children to jump off cliffs just so they would not have to be ruled by the US if they lost the war It was necessary tbh, so no they shouldn't. Although of course the mass civilian deaths wasn't fair, but unavoidable

Japan did not stop attacking us after the first bomb, so they had to be bombed a second time. Only then did they stop attacking and fighting us
Remember: Japan started it with their attack on Pearl Harbor. Where is Japan's apology?
It ain't Americas fault that it took 2 atomic bombs for Japan to back off. No apology necessary

They definitely should, but only after Japan apologizes to China etc. They were savage and the imperialist sentiment is still there, which is disgusting.

**** no.
The bombs were justified, Japan was ruled by irrationality at the time and unless shocked were never going to stop. Also, when you compare the human toll it wasn't even close to one of the worst atrocities committed in the war, Japan's actions in China were reprehensible and yet they still haven't apologised.

And? Wars have casualties and consequences. Japan should have thought about that after the first bomb. It's unfortunate that it happened, and I have pity for all of those affected by the bombs, but that's what happens when you go to war... You need to be prepared for the other country to fight back. And we did. America shut them down. Period.

The US has nothing for apoligise over Afghanistan, the government openly supported the Al Qaeda which was a direct threat to US security.
