I hate him but in Serbian calling someone an ape would be like calling someone a jerk or an asshole. You have to take a spirit of a language in consideration when translating.

But he has to take the discretion that people will misconstrue his own terms as something that's culturally offensive to them, and this was in the midst of a heated battle. I think this happened during his outbursts to the ball boy as well.

He said it in his own language, which in Serbian language and culture, it is not a racial slur. The people who are offended saw the translation without context

That's like me telling you guys to stop naming your children Peter because it low-key sounds like you're calling me a fa**ot when translated to Croatian. It doesn't work that way. I can literally give you the exact phrase he said in croatian/serbian/bosnian, word for word (without even looking at the source)... It's that common. You'll hear it at least twice a day here and sometimes it's even said jokingly. It has nothing to do with race but the fact that people from Balkan just like to swear a lot.
