Do ATRL members have an irrational fear of men? It seems strange for a forum full of gays, yet there is evidence to support this. At least in terms of musical taste, the members of ATRL appear to have a fear of male artists. Make no mistake, this has nothing to do with genre, but
gender.
Acts like iamwhoamiwhoiam (whatever her name is) and Bjork (an experimental pop artist) receive attention on this website, while male artists who make more accessible music that is popular with the GP are ignored.
Let's look at a few cases:
Sam Smith -
In the Lonely Hour Album Thread (24 pages)
vs.
iamami... -
Blue Album Thread (63 pages)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maroon 5 -
V Album Thread (39 pages)
vs.
Paramore -
Paramore Album Thread (131 pages)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jason Derulo -
Tattoos Album Thread (11 pages)
vs.
Bjork -
Vulnicura Album Thread (75 pages)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fall Out Boy -
American Beauty/American Psycho Album Thread (12 pages)
vs.
Marina and the Diamonds -
Electra Heart (910 pages)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pitbull - "Wild Wild Love" Single Thread (14 pages)
vs.
Becky G - "Shower" Single Thread (55 pages)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jason Derulo (relevant artist) - "Want to Want Me" Single Thread (12 pages)
vs.
Gwen Stefani (irrelevant artist) - "Baby Don't Lie" Single Thread (91 pages)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In each comparison, the male artist's music is either more popular with the GP or more or equally accessible compared to the female artist's music. So why does ATRL not give the male artists the attention that they deserve? Do male vocalists scare you? I thought gheys were supposed to be misogynistic, but it seems that the opposite may be true.
Someone explain this for me.
