Philippine Officials wants Josie Rizal name change

Tekken creator Katsuhiro Harada may just decide to drop the Filipino character ‘Josie Rizal’ from the game, report said on Thursday.
The launching of newest female Filipino character ‘Josie Rizal’ received flak when some Philippine officials and other netizens expressed dismay for connecting the character to the country’s national hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
They said Josie Rizal’s image might impose a wrong impression about the national hero and the Philippines as well.
Although he claimed that 90% of feedback from fans regarding Josie is actually positive, Harada said he might remove the character from the game if the Philippine government still insists on changing the character’s name.
”If Josie can’t get supported in the Philippines, we give her up anytime. TEKKEN7 arcade board has a network update system. We can change plan and change characters anytime & quickly,” Harada stated.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has yet issued a statement regarding the matter, saying they are still studying what legal actions they may take.
”The Commission shall issue an official statement soon on what actions it will take upon studying the legal aspect of this matter, in coordination with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines,” the NCCA said.

She'll sadly probably get dropped because that's Actually a big deal. Defamation of character and what not. That's why M. Bison had to be renamed as Balrog in SF for the US edition.
First of all, this is just dumb. Almost everyone I know who are Tekken fans are really fond of Josie Rizal's inclusion to the game. Who cares if the name was derived from our country's national hero? It's not like it is a form of defamation or something, and obviously Josie's character is in the good side anyway.
Apparently, the local commissions just can't get a check or some money from this that's why they're seething. It's not cultural appropriation. That **** is for people who can't comprehend cultural influence and adaptation. As long as there's no issue of racism, classism, or what not, I don't really see the problem, especially when no one else has a problem with it.
Oh gosh. My country has more problems and the commissions really had to make this one a big deal. Just wow.
So god damn dramatic. Bunch of attention seeking dumb asses. Do something productive instead of focusing your attention on trivial **** like these. I swear if this character gets dropped.......
