Simon Cowell has told the 31 year-old that she is a linchpin for the talent show's new season and will remain a judge 'at all costs'.
A source told the newspaper: 'They haven't signed a deal yet but Simon, Cheryl and ITV are all on the same page.
'But that's really bad news for Mel. She had a good first year but bosses want a new line-up.'

Despite the show undergoing a major re-vamp which has left other judges Mel B and Louis Walsh at risk the Geordie lass will be returning.
A source revealed to the Sun that the nation's sweetheart will be sitting on the panel once again.

Mel was a MUCH better judge and way more entertaining to watch than Cheryl

Simon doesn't seem to realise that Cheryl's not bringing audiences anymore.

Mel and Tulisa would be a good panel. They'd either get on really well or not at all, it would be interesting.

The fans have turned against Cheryl. She looked disinterested last year. Mel being dropped shows Cowell is still crazy about Cheryl.

I like Cheryl but I honestly had to think twice as to whether she was on it last year. It's almost like she's become more reserved and disinterested. Mel however was the opposite.. she was tamer than anticipated but entertaining nonetheless.

Waiting for this new formula ("shake up") or whatever the series insight's said. If the stories are even true.

I agree that Tulisa and Mel would be great, their disagreements would be amazing to watch, but they're very similar so I can see them getting along very well like sisters, they would be the female version of Sharon and Louis.

Cheryl isn't really that entertaining, but I do like her being on the show as she reminds me of old times of X Factor and I do like her performances.

Mel B was a better and more entertaining judge but I'd so much rather have Tulisa on the panel. Simon needs to make it happen. ASAP.

People still watch music shows?

I want Simon, Louis Tomlinson, Natalia, and I'd love Ellie or P!nk but they wouldn't do it, especially not with Natalia.
