Both are remarkable achievements. But honestly, Katy's 5 #1s was such a big deal when it was announced. You can also feel her presence throughout that long era. She outlasted 1 Gaga era and 2 eras from Rihanna with one long era. Taylor's album selling capacity is of course amazing- reminiscent of the album selling power of Garth Brooks. Unless you're from country you will never have a stronger and more loyal fan base than them. Frankly, who can remember those 3 1-million 1st week openers though? Besides 1989, I don't think she's had a real "era" the way Teenage Dream, The Fame/TFM were.
3 Mill opening because it shows incredible consistency and shows the strength and stabilizability of an artist's fanbase and their brand.
@ some of you acting like the one mill is some arbitrary imaginary placeholder number like it doesnt actually mean 1mill people now own that album (and wanted it as soon as it came out) as opposed to some songs that they heard continuously on the radio regardless of if they liked them or not.

It's just the nature of being a country superstar. It is indeed a remarkable achievement but it also comes with the territory. Taylor is actually pretty smart for starting in country and slowly morphing into pop.

Is It?
Blown Away debuted at number one in the United States on the Billboard 200 chart with first-week sales of 267,000 copies.
Platinum debuted at No. 1 on both the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums chart, selling 180,000 copies
Reba: Duets debuted at number one on both the Top Country Albums and Billboard 200 albums charts selling a total of 300,536
I'm shocked at the amount of TD support I personally think that the 3 1m+ opening weeks is more impressive but Katy's record is more likely to be remembered in a general public sense.
If I cared about money, 3 consecutive 1M+ openings.
If I cared about being remembered, 5 #1 singles from one album
I would legit choose the latter because I sincerely doubt anyone with 5 #1s to their name would still be struggling to buy groceries, and the excess money would not be important to me.
No.
No one remembers albums. Everyone cares about songs, about lyrics, about memorable music.
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" or "Nevermind"?
"Tik Tok" or "Animal"?
"My Heart Will Go On" or "Let's Talk About Love"?
"Call Me Maybe" or "Kiss"?
Singles >>>>>>>>>> Albums.
i don't know if you are serious but "Nevermind" wasn't overshadowed by SLTS like the others. Not to mention there is tons of memorable albums as well.
