O.K then, but that's the point where she tries different sounds and genres, so the point is that she isn't afraid to try different elements.

I think he's referring to Her vocal timbre complimenting different musical genres; in this case she is a versatile musical artist! This is a true statement, she can disguise her tone to fit virtually any instrumental..
However, that doesn't mean that her vocals are refined enough to fit the vocal arrangements the genre calls for..It takes more than vocalizing to any instrumental the producer places in front of you. TRUE vocal versatility takes a level of musicianship and a keen understanding of the music and your voice..
i.e- knowing how to phrase certain lines, the type of style and diction to use, where to add vocal darkness or lifting the weight of the timbre to exhibit lightness, where the song calls for it...Knowing which genres require more open vowels and full-bodied notes, as opposed to incorporating twang to grit to other lines..Knowing the difference between standard blues/jazz scales and chord progressions and normal pop music..It's a LOT that goes into this and more inept singers like Rihanna wouldn't grasp these things as easily as more proficient vocalists..(i.e-Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce).
