Just saw this on Tumblr.
Quote:
this comparison is ****ing legit tho. She emulated Warhol’s style of co-opting elements of the most successful pop entertainers, satirizing pop culture while simultaneously becoming part of it. Blonde, eccentric, one hell of an icon. Once accepted she slowly ditched the warholian layers until she was back to the girl that couldn’t get a record deal - scrappy, unapologetic, singing about gay rights and dive bars. In doing such the general public lost some interest. Why wouldn’t she just go back to her old sound? She was on top, dead center in the public eye and fed everyone a big spoonful of “this is who the **** I am”. To some, she flopped. To others, her artistic cred shot through the roof. She was on a new playing field. Flo Rida, RedOne and Beyonce transitioned to Koons, Abramovic, and Botticelli. Why be Madonna when you can be Venus? Anyone doubting her commitment to, application of, or mastery of art, music and pop culture is on my prayer list tbh.
