People need to learn that you have lyrics and you have melody. P!nk pretty much writes all of the lyrics but she's always listed with co writers because she does not do the music and production. Same goes for other songs. I doubt it takes 5 people to piece together a song's lyrics but 5 is about right if you have several people working on the music or if you're sampling

I'm a fan of pop music and I always question this about modern day pop. Back in the day, constructing pop tunes didn't take all of that. Mostly, there were 3-4 credits at best and artists worked with 1 producer or a producing/songwriting duo for the duration of a whole era at least. The music used to naturally evolve.

The only way I see the 5+ credits making sense is if they covered, used a sample or there are a bunch of featured acts on the track.

People always forgot about the melody part. I mean lots of producers get writing credits only for that and not because tehy actually wrote anything.
