"I never met him, never shook his hand, but he found out the name I stayed in hotels under," Crowe told The Guardian while discussing the more bizarre aspects of fame.

"It didn't matter where I was," Crowe continued. "He'd ring up, do this kind of thing, like you did when you were 10, you know. 'Is Mr. Wall there? Is Mrs. Wall there? Are there any Walls there? Then what's holding the roof up? Ha ha.' "

"You're supposed to grow out of doing that, right?" he told The Guardian.

I think aR is right in hinting at mental illness. Michael was a great human being and that's not to say he was schizophrenic, but he not only had no childhood, but also had an enormous amount of fame and pretty much went broke living in this fantasy world that just... wasn't world. Wonderful talent and wonderful person and it doesn't mean anything negative to point that out.

I agree with you. I'm not a mental health specialist or anything, but there were signs. Sadly, they were overlooked. And the tremendous amount of abuse he suffered as a child did not help.
