The question isn't whether she is a big celebrity, I think everyone knows who she is and while her performance was wonderful what did it have to do with pop music? The same can be said to people pointing at her jazz music.

I like Jazz music and would not mind if she went that direction but if you are going to base all her positive attention after Artpop as a sign that she is still a major pop girl then you are comparing apples to oranges. Then again I don't think it is fair to damn someone based on one release so I think people need to wait for her next pop release to make any concrete judgments.

She did something worth talking about in the media with subsequent GP interest and reaction. That makes her a celebrity. Kim Kardashian would achieve the same thing if she did the tribute, albeit with negative criticism. Would not make her a major pop girl.

The stats you need to come to terms with is ARTPOP failing to go Platinum despite her former album selling 1 million in first week(*). Applause underperforming. DWUW struggling and GUY not making a single splash of a raindrop on any radar anywhere. Her tour grossing less than $100m after the BTWB success. Etc etc. Decline after decline after decline in various platforms does not grant her major pop girl title.

She could bounce back though, but currently these are the realistic views.

45S is consistent in the top 3/5/10 globally still today. Has sold 1.4m in the US after 2 months (Applause 2.4m after 19 months). It's not struggling as its still posting 100k a week and will hit Applause mark much faster. And that's without the massive promo campaign App had.

She declined in every aspect during the last era: single performance, album performance, music quality, tour gross etc. She's not exactly huge right now but who knows what can happen. I'm just rooting for her to give me good music again.

I believe she has it in her though. If any other artist received as much hate and backlash as she did during the ARTFLOP era, they wouldn't even be remembered right now. So she is still kind of doing something right.

No lol. she hasn't had a major hit in nearly four years. she had a hit two years ago, but it was probably one of her least successful "hit singles" if you align it's achievements with her other ones. It's only crowning achievement was her longest stay on radio top 20, right? Consumers don't control that, so I find it funny that it's such a crowning achievement in that argument

Also, although she had a strong February or whatever, none of the accomplishments had to do with her mainstream pop-music career. Ready for a little monster to come and bite my head off though
