Ciao.
12. Creep
It really is bop central. There isn't much wrong that can be committed with a beat this slick, but Dannii seems like she knows just what to do with it. I need to listen to this whole album.
11. Lion in a Coma
I guess I'm a sucker for acid-drenched, sunny euphoria, but virtually all of
Merriweather Post Pavilion captures this same, marvelous feeling. I also love the song's play on words and idiosyncratic choice in instruments.
10. Crush
There's a certain classic sophistication that characterizes Quadron as a whole, but in terms of "Crush", it rears its head the most in the chorus, reminding me of another song I can't quite put my finger on. Regardless, Coco's voice is beautiful and the lyrics just seem to get it, don't they?
How soon will I get to know if dreaming of you is wasting my time? feels like a phrase tattooed on my soul.
9. Tortured, Tangled Hearts
I can't help but think this is only high on my rankings because I have issues with the eight other songs. But, this is solidly "fine" and there isn't much to critique here. The lyrics are on point and the composition seems on par with what the Chicks are about.
8. Focus
But how can I not lose my focus among all the smokiness, suppression of feeling, and lack of a real climax? Fortunately, it jams harder than most of the rest.
7. White Coats
At first I was turned off due to this/Foxes being a part of the indie pop craze from a couple years ago, the one that I think we're all over by now. But, the unsteady beat is pretty cool and she crafts together a fairly superb chorus.
6. Give Up
The block of Two Weeks/Lights On/Video Girl/Pendulum is so bright that I never really gave the rest of the album its due time in the sun, but maybe I'm beginning to understand why. This is too jam packed with ideas and effects to truly soar like the best of
LP1. It kind of feels overworked, come to think of it. A case of style over substance, maybe?
5. Goodnight Laura
It's a sweet little ode to some girl, but with a band like Spoon that has so many options, why
this?
4. Sleeping Alone
I'm just not into the sadcore of
I Never Learn. Her voice being so slathered in reverb as it is on the album, and this track, is certainly not to my liking.
3. Goodbye
madonnas nailed it. She tries to sound ethereal but falls on her face. Plus, it's boring.
2. Pretty When You Cry
I understand that music is subjective; I really do. But it will perpetually baffle me how alleged fans of music swear by Lizzy and her ****. For starters, those vocals!? Must be a joke.
1. Falling Into Grace
So incredibly repetitive that it makes this almost four minute track seem like it's ten minutes long, forcing me to rank it below Ms. Grant. For shame, Chili Peppers.
