Yeah I remember that time as well.
I remember how they deeply discounted Loverboy but Tommy mottolla and company rush released Bootylicious 2 weeks early to block mariah from jumping from 55 to 1. Booty licious hit #1 for 2 weeks and Loverboy had to settle for #2.
Mariah's main tactic back in the day was waiting for her songs to hit top 15 on airplay before releasing a single.
In any event, she wasn't the only one to do it and if I don't like a song I'm not going to spend 1.99, .99 or .49c on it.
Glad to see someone that has some history of the charts write about it though
