I'm looking for recommendations for some good films in the romance and/or coming-of-age genres that are either underrated or obscure.
We've all seen or heard of films like The Notebook, Titanic, Brokeback Mountain etc., but what are some of your favorite films that weren't hugely popular or appreciated?
Some of my recommendations:
**Gay theme
(HS) High School
Nick and Norah's infinite Playlist
The History Boys **(HS)
Flipped
Mysterious Skin **
Threesome**
Edge of 17** (HS)
Party Girl
Before Sunrise
Starter for 10
Get Real and Beautiful thing are two of the best (British) gay films of all time. Both are super sweet, and you can watch them on youtube. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I just watched this film starring Olly Alexander from the band Years and Years
I really enjoyed it.
It's a musical about a girl with anxiety and an eating disorder who's looking to start a band.
There are a lot of really cute indie songs and performances through out.
Riding in cars with boys is one of my favorite movies. It's about a teenage girl who gets knocked up by a not-very-smart, but well-meaning boy, and her struggle to get her life on track. It's hilarious in parts, and serious in others,
It stars Drew Berrymore and the late Brittany Murphey.
