Automatic transmission, easily (no pun intended). Why would the average person want to wrestle or struggle with shifting just to go to work, or go to the store from some groceries? How is it cheating for a transmission to shift gears/speeds on its own? What am I trying to prove or who am I trying to impress by taking pride in driving, or being able to drive, a manual transmission when automatics exist?

This is sort of like comparing a stove or a microwave (automatic) with being able to start a fire with rocks or sticks the old-fashioned way (manual). Or music made with synthesizers and computers (automatic) versus music made with actual instruments (manual). It's not like you can walk into a forest and pluck either one off of a tree anyway. Car snobs are like music snobs.

Manuals may be easier to fix (if you're a mechanic) and they may cost less and be more fuel-efficient. But If you are making the money to afford an automatic, why not? Why make, or keep, things (like life in general) harder than they need to be? The majority of people buying and driving automatic is one thing about America I do prefer over Europe. Have fun crippling your legs and feet with that clutch. Hope you don't have much traffic or narrow turns where you live.

Manual, and since I got my license on a manual I can drive both

I prefer manual, automatic is boring because you don't have to do much while driving so you end up paying less attention after a while. Manual also has better acceleration which makes it more fun.

Manual transsmision gives you more control over the car.

Manumatic. My car is steptronic so I just change gears with the flaps on the steering wheel. Don't have to worry about a clutch, moving the gearstick etc. Or I just drive it in automatic and not worry at all..

Both. My car is manual but my father's is automatic and I use his sometimes. He didn't want to go back to manual which is much more popular in Europe when we got back from the US where they all drive automatic.

Btw automatics are cheaper than manuals in the US (and vice-versa in Europe) so stop associating manual and poverty.

Automatic all the way man. The value of manual cars has steeped to the lowest levels up to this point tbh.

For example, my brother wanted to trade in his 2008 Honda Coupe. Bank gave him $4800 for it. If it was manual, they would have given him $2300

I really don't know the specifics of it, I'm only 22 and on my second car (first financed car though) and I was asking the dude at the dealership so many questions.

In Canada, to get your learner's permit all you have to do is pass a written quiz that teaches you the rules of the road. Your parents are expected to teach you how to actually operate the vehicle, so the licenses here are for both manual and automatic (I think).
