Flying is not unsafe just because there have been a recent spate of highly publicised aviation accidents. Statistically speaking, flying is still very, very, very safe.

As for the aircraft involved, looks like it was built in 1990, so it was 24 years old - an earlier model A320.

People's fear of flying has nothing to do with the possibility of dying. It's a combined fear of height, speed, turbulence and isolation etc.

this is how i think (so yes, i do know that planes technically are safer than cars, but that doesn't help me feel more calm). if i'm in a car, i could survive. i could get out. there is a realistic chance of me to walk out of there alive.

if a plane crashes? i have nowhere to go.
