Albums like
ARTPOP went to #1 across the world, albums like
Britney Jean spawned at the least a moderate hit, albums like
The Spirit Indestructible were made on a low budget with minimal promotion and should arguably be held to much lower regard, albums like
Bionic were an artistic and experimental risk that saw the artist go completely outside the box and should at least be applauded for their courage and envelope-pushing.
Rebel Heart had the following:
- Major cross-continental promo and promotional performances across tons of major markets, including one of the biggest of all, The Grammys
- The accidental super-promo of falling over going viral capturing the world's attention
- Huge, trendy names like Avicii, Nicki Minaj, Diplo, Natalia Kills working on the record (all of which are proven and acclaimed industry names)
- High-budget video in Living for Love
- Ticket bundling
However:
- Album failed to go #1 in the US
- Living for Love failed to chart at all in spite of Grammys performance/video premiere in the same week
- Living for Love didn't hit the Top 20 in any major market and didn't chart at all in many larger market's charts
- The Rebel Heart tour sees Madonna downgrade from stadiums to arenas; arenas with tickets that are still available
- Rebel Heart is set to have one of the biggest 2nd week declines in Billboard 200 history
All things considered (promo, budget, name/brand/starpower), is this one of the biggest flops of all time?
