He may be media mainstream but he's definitely not trying to cater to radio hits. He only has a handful of songs promoted to radio and majority have been successful (Look at Me Now, Too Close, Beauty and a Beat, Climax, etc.) Yet most know and adore his songs across several projects (Jack U, Major Lazer). So you hush.
I've followed his career since way back so I know. He tetters a line between indie and mainstream now but his current work begs to be Top 40, but it sucks. He's never really had a career defining hit other than Look At Me now.

He didn't produce Beauty And A Beat.
Two of Diplo's biggest songs are about ass which kinda speaks volumes, lol. Also - his song with JLo is 100% radio pandering/an attempt at a hit. Donnnn't even.
And that was 10 years ago. Can we call Gaga a fat hypocrite for selling herself out to become a huge pop star, just so when she began flopping she's now "f pop, jazz baby"? Well you can. But an optimistic person would see times change, opportunities come.
You are sooo off topic. gaga has nothing to do with this. But i'll contest your ********. gaga wasn't a jealous girlfriend trying to control her successful boyfriend. He only changed his mind when HE got the opportunities but was a purist when his girlfriend was the one getting her shine. ****ed up **** anyway you try to contest it. And the nerve of you defending this mess and comparing it with Gaga ! You are seriously full of **** if you think his and Gaga's situation are exactly similar. You don't even know Gaga's full trajectory, so take a damn seat while I fill you in:
Gaga did an ep featuring a ragtime version of Poker Face (this was released when she was blowing up), a successful thanksgiving special in which she sang jazz covers with Tony Bennet (2012), and a live holiday jazz ep (2012) before artpop. And her latest return to jazz garnered her another #1 album with over a million sales WW, and a Grammy. So she didn't just return to jazz. she had said in an interview during the born this way era that she was working on a jazz ep and was going to do a full on jazz album in the future. but of course you would know this because you stan for her and collect all this information. Seethe all you want!
Yeah Diplo used to be all high and mighty about his music and then he just kinda flipped the script... Nothing wrong with working with popular artists, but to act like you're above it and then only pander to them now... Lol.
I loved the work he did with Bey but I could tell he was upset when RTW wasn't a huge WW smash with the way he tried to pin the performance on Bey, which is confusing because that isn't in line with what he's about.
Diplo was so much better when he worked with Switch together. For people who don't know: They were the original Major Lazer but Switch left him. They produced the most crazy stuff for M.I.A and later some light version stuff for Santogold before she had to change her name to Santigold.
He was fresh and went nuts on his productions. Now he fails at trying to come for those big records because he can't translate his former "weird" stuff into Top 40 sounds.
That's the reason why he never worked for Rihanna. He's just not THAT good in that field.
And I used to LOVE Diplo. He just became the definition of lame over the years.
By the way: I could write full sites full of essays on why M.I.A is the world's greatest artist ever but I will keep It short by just posting this epic tweet by the Queen of Rap Azealia Banks:
