Prior to the whole "MOM" trend blowing up, she was all about "not babying her fans because she felt that was condescending". Now that's it's a popular trend, she's not only accepting of her fans calling her "mom", she's calling herself "mom". It seems pretty disingenuous to me...

True, but this isn't a case of fans calling their fave "mom" as a joke, this is a case of the fave accepting the title and calling themselves "mom" in a serious manner.
I must point out, the main difference between Gaga's "Mother Monster" and Katy's "Mother Kat" is that Gaga's title is a result of a deep connection between her and her fans and not just something she picked up on because it's a trend that became popular.
