Puerto Rican Govt Will NOT Defend Gay Marriage Ban! Yas!
PR government has just announced that they will no longer defend the marriage ban in court. Once the 1st Circuit releases its (positive) verdict weddings can start. The country also falls under Supreme Court jurisdiction so if the 1st takes too long and the Supreme Justices say yes then that could also bring gay marriage to the island.
As the only place in the 1st Circuit with no gay marriage, I doubt the appeals court will uphold the ban.
That's going to set a great precedent for the Caribbean. I hope Cuba comes next, at least with civil unions.

Having a big voice like Mariela Castro and Fidel's public statements of regret about the disenfranchisement and abuse of LGBTs he allowed during the revolution sure have helped the slight progress.
That's one of the worst negatives in LGBT rights in the Caribbean. Lack of visibility for more "conventional" gay people because of fear and rejectment. Basically being closet cases to disassociate themselves with the common stereotypes of the LGBT community.
