Really, it's impossible to outright declare any of her albums as her best.

Also, "Applause" is better than "Just Dance". It's aging much better, and "Applause" has such attention to detail that "Just Dance" looks sloppy in comparison.
"Bad Romance" > "Applause" > "Just Dance" > "Born This Way"
"Born This Way" is slightly above average, but not on par with her other lead singles. That said, I will defend "Born This Way" as the lead single to my last breath. The courage and strength in her convictions she had in releasing "Born This Way" are major reasons that I started stanning for her.

"Telephone" and "Teeth" are arguably filler, especially seeing as Gaga didn't write the former for herself, let alone for the album.
"Monster", "Alejandro", "Bad Romance" and "So Happy I Could Die" decimate most of the Born This Way tracks individually, but Born This Way's strength is as a collective album. I will say that TFM is the better pop album (concise, to-the-point), but the experience of Born This Way surpasses that.

Applause's songwriting suffers from being written over an already-produced track, and it lacks the same melodic, fun feeling that JD has. It's a victim of taking itself just a little too seriously even if that was done intentionally and ironically. In addition, the bridge is lacking in comparison and the song is simply not as interesting - this is especially true given the theoretical connection between JD and other songs in her discog. Applause is a B-Side that made it because it sounded more commercially appealing than the rest of the record to Jimmy.

Telephone is anything but filler, and Teeth is just that - arguable. Born This Way would be a stronger piece of work if it didn't include such throwaways as Americano, HU, and The Queen. It might be a better experience as a record for us stans, but that's because we're already fascinated by the lore of Gaga in general. We know what the songs are about, from where in her mind and heart they came - in some cases, this connection is lost and makes no sense, or the concepts are unrestrained an measily executed (see the first two I listed above).
You kind of have to be indoctrinated into the whole Lady Gaga mindset to fully understand and enjoy the whole soundscape and atmosphere of BTW in such a way that makes it superior to TFM. To anyone else, only TFM makes sense as "her best".

Also, there are elements of the MJH demo that damn well should have made it into the final, just like the oohs in the Bad Romance demo's chorus.

Can't Beat the Machines is much better than MJH. Writing overs beats doesn't work for Gaga.

Do you literally not know that almost every track on the record had an instrumental pitched to her by DJWS, Zedd, or Madeon BEFORE she wrote the lyrics?
Like, the Applause concept demos literally outright confirm this, and IIRC she's said it herself. Don't accuse me of pulling **** out of my ass.

Arioso, what's your opinion on "The Queen" as a standalone track, out of curiosity?

CBTM is also beautiful.
But I do still love MJH, one of my favorite tracks. I agree that writing that way doesn't work for her, but I think it was fine with that song.

I like the first half and I've grown to love the second, but I feel like it doesn't fit that well into its album - partly because of the contrasting halves, partly because it's just not in the same style as most of the tracks.
Alone - like completely separate of the album - I love it.

You're saying nothing but truth in these posts. Just Dance is like the catchiest song of all time, pure club perfection and it has the most genius bridge. Applause is dope but the chorus is the only really amazing part.
Born This Way is her boldest album but so so out there, half the songs (if not more) are intolerable for most non-fans. Americano, Black Jesus, Bad Kids, Highway Unicorn, Queen, even the title track work in the context of the experience but I'm not trying to hear those songs randomly on their own. TFM is bulletproof.

Applause demo doesn't prove anything, this LG demo has almost finished instrumental with cat-with-a-cold-vocals, and it was written by her.(Unless some fan added instrumental, but I doubt it.)

Or she came up with the melody and wrote some sketches about the song and then DJWS send her an demo instrumental. I don't think any AP song by DJWS was written over an already existing instrumental
