Bjork to release Voltaic Multimedia Extravaganza
As a follow up to her 2007 release "Volta" Bjork will return this summer on Nonesuch with a multi-media extravaganza entitled "Voltaic." Due June 23, this offering yields a conglomeration of five different physical options of live material, remixes and videos culled from the "Volta" tour. According to Nielson Soundscan, "Volta" has sold 132,000 units.
This isn’t the first time Bjork has gone big between studio records. In 2002, she released the 6 CD box set entitled "Family Tree," which presented rare material on 3 inch, mini CD’s and in 2003 released "Live Box," a 4 CD + 1 DVD set of her first four studio records performed live.
The two CDs for "Voltaic" presents the "Volta" material in two different lights. One CD captures Bjork performing live in London’s Olympic Studios. The set was recorded in one take and produced by Bjork herself. The second CD contains remixes of tracks "Earth Intruders," "Innocence," "Wanderlust," and "The Dull Flame of Desire" by heavy hitters such as Ratatat, Spank Rock, and Simian Mobile Disco.
The DVD material will give fans a taste of Bjork’s visual elements throughout the last several years. One DVD draws from concert footage shot in Paris and Reykjavik and the second DVD includes fifteen different videos, including ten different ones for the song "Innocence," and the Michel Gondry-directed video for "Declare Independence."
"Voltaic" is Bjork's first Nonesuch release, and is the only one scheduled at this time.
In related news, on May 8 Bjork will perform at New York City’s Housing Works Bookcafe with local art-rock act The Dirty Projectors. The show will raise funds for Housing Works, an organization that helps the homeless who are living with AIDS.
