Has Kendrick Lamar finally reached Drake's level of stardom? I always thought he was another B-List rapper like J. Cole or Wiz Khalifa, but after hearing about his hype I'm starting to think otherwise.

Not quite, but he will. Drake and Kanye are the two biggest stars in modern-day hip hop. Kendrick is still in the B-List with J-Cole.

He is still B list. Drake is a household name. My parents know who Drake is but not Kendrick for example.

Very doubtful. Drake has celebrity to his name which will keep him afloat almost on its own. He maintains quality and it's a wrap. Likewise continue his business endeavors. Jay Z blueprint.

Cole will probably still be here too, unless he taps out. But he's still second tier.

No, and the only reason for that is because Drake is much more of a celebrity than Kendrick. Like i think rapping wise Kendrick is on par if not better than drake but because of Drake's celebrity he is bigger. Not to mention Drake is more mainstream.

J Cole is definitely underestimated, but you're crazy to think Drake will be forgotten. He's already established his career enough to not be.


To answer the OP, yes and no. He has Drake's influence, but Drake is clearly a more commercial/pop crossover artist.

To answer the thread, Kendrick is definitely in the upper echelon of the rap game. I would not place him next to likes of Wiz, Cole, Gambino, etc.

Stardom though, no not on Drake level.

J.Cole and Kendrick are better lyricist than Drake ever will be. J.Cole/Kendrick music is message heavy, Drake makes "fun" music.

He's close but not quite there yet.

If he collaborated with someone like Rihanna I could see it happening.
