I'm in community college, so I don't think I count.
But, Ive been to some frat parties at UT Austin. A lot of the guys are actually cool and mean no harm and are involved with a lot of charity work. The stereotype is definitely warranted tho. So many rich, obnoxious, boat shoe wearing manthots.
Don't join. It's for people who can't make friends. And even if they can, they don't talk or hang out with anybody outside of their frat house which is obnoxious.

I'm intimidated by frat guys especially cause I don't look like one and I'm also closeted so I don't know how that will work.
i don't like frats at all because i don't like loud stuff, but a lot of frats are fine and safe and filled with normal people but there's some crazy ones and if you want to join one you're going to have to be careful to avoid those. and sometimes being in a frat can lead people to do really bad/stupid things because of peer pressure and stuff like that, so you also need to be careful about that and not get too caught up in other people's perceptions of you if you think they're starting to do something dumb. basically, it's not for me at all and it does get a little crazy but i think it works for some people

Most of the ones I've met weren't homophobic, at least not openly. I live in Austin tho, which is a pretty liberal city. Most of the frat dudes come from Conservative familes tho, so I'm sure their "true feelings" are in their somewhere. I've also heard some racist stuff said by a few of them, so really, it's no better.
