Amazing film, the cinematography, production design, costumes and make-up, visual effects (! is it really just under a $100 million?), but nothing beats the score! That was good as it could be! I never expected it to be this good, I'm glad I gave this a chance, thanks to the ratings! Cate Blanchett always slays! And I never thought I'd see Daisy outside that Downton kitchen lmao! How the tables have turned!

Linda Holmes from NPR wrote about Cinderella's history, going all the way back to Egypt to the new movie even including the Hilary Duff movie. Great if long read:

Quote:
"Woman gives birth to a gourd."
This is the opening to the description of an Italian variant of the Cinderella folk tale — or, really, a relative of one of its relatives — taken from a book called Cinderella; three hundred and forty-five variants of Cinderella, Catskin, and Cap o'Rushes, abstracted and tabulated, with a discussion of mediaeval analogues, and notes, written by Marian Roalfe Cox and published in 1893. In this version of the story, the heroine is born inside a gourd and accidentally abandoned in the forest — understandable, given that her mother has just brought forth a squash from within her person, and the last thought she's entertaining is probably, "Hey, I'll take that with me."

Saw it tonight, movie was beautiful and a perfect live-action version, I hope Disney does this for the rest of their animated to live-action movies.

A really long and specially slow film that resembled the standard Hallmark production, but with a big budget. Absolutely nothing special. Cate's acting was on point; too bad her character was diminished, in comparison to the cartoon stepmother.

I just got back from it. It just met my expectations tbh. I wanted to love it but I still rather enjoyed it. Lily James is great. Richard Madden definitely didn't disappoint, gorgeous.

Absolutely nothing special with this movie.
Just a retelling of the classic Disney cartoon with a bigger budget for their costume. You'd better off watching the cartoon.
Saving grace is Cate Blanchett and Holliday Grainger.

The movie is beautifully shot, the photography is also on point, the scene were the iconic dress gets "made" is perfect, and the Dance sequence at the Ball is also nicely done.
I loved the fact that the script NEVER went over the top, it was always very tangible and "real"
Miss Cate SLAYS as the b!tch(aka the stepmother) she gave the character layers, a character that is regularly portrayed as a monodimensional character that is only "mean".
Cate's Stepmother Performance >>>>> Meryl's Witch

Still mad that they didn't include "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" and "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo" in the movie.

The movie was okay. Visually it was amazing! especially from the fairy godmother part and onward. Everything before that was pretty boring. I wish there was more tension between the family cause it just seemed pretty tamed. Cate made the movie. The actress who played Cinderella was okay. She lacked the strive that the animated Cinderella had. She also didn't really look the part except for her body shape. I mean the dress was made blue to match Cinderella's eyes, but the actress had brown eyes.. Also the script was horrible! I felt bad for Cate because I could tell she was really trying, but her character's script was bad.
