To be fair then, Barbara's album sold more than this one first week. And Barbara has been in the business longer than Madonna. It is just weird to see people who were dragging Gaga for selling less, when she was selling the average for female artist that year, and now they want to pull the sales climate excuse now when it was just as valid back then.
Her number of years shouldn't stop her fans from buying her music. It is just not clicking.

You are right. Barbara Streisand appeals to an entirely different audience than Madonna. And, there have been some voices in the music industry suggesting Madonna start catering towards more of an AC/Hot AC crowd. They emphasize Madonna is beyond older than enough to be the mother of the biggest stars in Pop today, and the executives said she needs to reconnect with her first and second generation fans instead of worrying about today's teenage listeners.
Again, I'm repeating what other music executives said about Madonna (I don't remember everyone's name, and it's not word for word, but it is supposedly a fairly common opinion), so don't shoot the messenger!
