"Style" is a hit, but so far it's underperformed to some degree due to to a combination of issues. As someone stated a few days ago, this song could easily gain sales and streaming to match her airplay should Swift perform it at the I-Heart Radio Awards. Since 1989 isn't even five months old yet, it's WAY too soon for Swift to stop promoting the release. She should get three if not four more hits off of this album within the 18 month window that leaves six months before she releases her follow-up in 2016.

I think it's 99% safe to say that the 1989 era has been abandoned by Ms. Swift.

UF is coming back again

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm not sure why she would give up on an album that's only charted for 19 weeks. Granted, 1989 has sold extremely well compared to 99.99999999% of the other CDs released in the 2010s, but 1989 should have a lot more life left. If she stops promoting this release too quickly, it could impact her follow up.

She still needs at least three more hits off of this so she is not out of sight and out of mind too long when the next release comes around. Six "official" singles would equal her output from Red, which is what she needs from here. With "Style" close to peaking before 1989 is even six months old, she can't abandon her album.

For me, it's not a proper hit. It's a radio fuelled single so it would be hypocritical if I called it a hit when it's the same as Maroon 5's four single releases before 'Sugar' and those are not hits for me. I'm happy it's doing good but peak positions aren't anything. It peaked way higher than 22 and I don't even think it will match the sales. The other factor why this isn't selling it's because the album sold too much and the video didn't help because it was a non-event

It's just what she does. She promotes heavy during Q4 and kinda mellows out/focuses on her tour once the new year starts. I agree that 1989 has plenty of potential hits left (look at Bad Blood and Wildest Dreams already scanning near or over 500,000 downloads without promotion), but I think her and her label are satisfied with the numbers she's done with 1989 and the two monster singles it spawned.

1989is still around 100 k behind Eminem's Recovery for the second-best selling album of the decade. Swift's aim ought to be for the second biggest selling CD released since 2005, which is within her reach with this release, but about 3.5 million copies away (Nickelback's All The Right Reasons is at around 7.85 million copies). Swift can't catch 21, but she should still go for 8 million.

The "Sugar" remix with Nicki Minaj is decreasing in downloads at a rather rapid rate. I am not up to combining versions of songs right now, but in the morning I will see if UF has in fact retaken the lead.
