Indeed. It's been proven that genes carry information that determines how likely you are to become addicted to something or to murder someone. While that information is on your genes, that doesn't necessarily mean you will be condemned to be addicted to something or murder people, let's put it that way. It depends on the society your grow that will shape your behavior and moral towards such things.
Seen from the gay/hetero perspective, it might be something similar. Sex orientation information is carried within people's genes, but it also depends on the society you develop whether you'll follow that orientation or not.

My assumption is that, while being gay and having sexual intercouse with their couple would mean not being able to reproduce, that doesn't handicap them from having children. Males are still anatomically and biologically capable of procreating with females to have children and viceversa, despite the sexual orientation they may have.
