it's more about the disparity between the subject matter of [hedonistic] pop songs and the real world in which most people live. never seeing a diamond in the flesh or not being proud of your address doesn't necessarily mean she's poor.
i don't think there's anything wrong with a song that's clearly about wanting something real from music. it's not bitter in the slightest - 'that luxe just ain't for us'.
