Alberta is far from analogous to Florida. Alberta has the highest per capita economic output in the country, while Florida is a debt-ridden state full of lazy people. More likely than not they were trying to be funny and "edgy", and extremely stupid thinking that everyone would get a laugh out of it. Someone that actually supported KKK and believed in what they say would not wear their clothes as a costume to a party. It was pure ignorance.

Trying to make people laugh? It was obviously a terrible wardrobe choice, but unless they misread the invite as "We're throwing a racist party, wear your best KKK robes" they were clearly trying to make people laugh. Might have been playing on the idea of an "All white" party.

They'd have to have mental disabilities to actually be racist and think showing up to a party in KKK robes wouldn't result in a massive backlash.
