Why hasn't there been any major rock bands this decade? Other than maybe Coldplay, and Maroon 5 if you consider them a band and not Adam Levine and the Scene, why haven't any rock bands become a major consistent force on the level of pop girls? There seems to be a string of one-hit wonders here and there, but no major acts. I feel like a rock band hasn't played the VMAs in years.
Imagine Dragons seem like the next big thing in rock, now of course purists are going to say they're not rock and I guess if your definition of rock is restricted to active rock then I guess they're right......
Also Mumford & Sons (not really rock but are alternative) are a favorite among alt and rock stations as well as the pop public so I think they have a potential for growth too. Let's be honest with the advent of the indie girl (aka people like Lana and Lorde) it is harder for rock bands to be stable but lots of them get cult status like Vampire Weekend and Passion Pit in recent times. Active rock is kind of dead though with FOB and Paramore switching to pretty much pop.
And well, it's not just the rock bands. There haven't been any big pop girls this decade either. The one smashing right now are from last decade. There aren't anyone new and major.
Arctic Monkeys had one of THE best albums of 2013 and I'm sure their next will be another step better.
Maroon 5 hasn't been anywhere near rock since about 2010.. coldplay maybe, but they still push it.
This forum will never be interested in rock bands that's why you don't see it here ever.. they're stuck on the constant battle between bey, rih, gaga, katy, blah blah blah etc.... u kno the drill.
idk if u would consider The War on Drugs a rock band, but they had the best album of 2014 BY FAR.
On a cultural level no true rock band is really at the forefront... Arctic Monkeys maybe, but just the music, not the band as a personality... im a huge fan and i love their music but i dont know the first thing about any of them...

ummm what world u living in??? this is the decade of every new person getting a top ten single... if anything there are too many new girls...
I'm not even sure Maroon 5 is 100% a band either. Think about it, their music gets produced by pop producers and Adam Levine is pretty much the only celebrity of the group, the only recognizable face. The value of the band is in the name because Adam could be a solo artist by this point and nothing would change

The fact that he is basically singing a song Katy already made shows his band has little to no input in the product at this point.
