Teenage Dream is between 2.97 and 2.98 million copies. Come on everyone. It's not like the release is stuck under or just over two million. I'm not even a Katy Perry fan, but since her album is literally weeks away from hitting three million, this argument is ridiculous.

I agree. I think a lot of her album sales were canabilized (sp?) by the 35m+ singles sold. But it's never a bad thing to sell singles.

Taylor´s "Red" and "1989" have also outsold Teenage Dream in the US tho.


Either way, this is an amazing achievement and TD was a huge success. Yet some comments here would let you to believe the album has just been certified Gold

It's surprising that Teenage Dream has been charting for 200 weeks... and it's only sold 2,970,000.

Taking away her opening week, she's sold an average of 14,000 copies of the album each week of its chart run

Teenage Dream is close enough now, with less than 30,000 copies to go, that her record label could certify Perry's CD Triple Platinum and no one would consider her release "over-certified," because it will be there within weeks.

I am not putting Ariana Grande down, but her selling 600,000 copies and being certified Platinum? 400,000 extra copies that seem unlikely to be sold is a gross over-certification.

Also, while she has an amazing voice, Susan Boyle's second CD was certified Triple Platinum while only selling a little over 2.2 million copies. That is also a gross over-certification.

At most, I would say 12 CDs/Digital Albums released since the beginning of 2010 have reached or exceeded Triple Platinum. Teenage Dream ranked in the Billboard 200 Year-End Top Ten in both 2010 & 2011, Top 20 in 2012, and Top 100 in 2013. She did miss the Top 200 in 2014 though.

I am defending Perry on here from her haters, but the Album of the Decade is undoubtedly 21, which has sold over 11 million copies.

21 also has an eight-million plus downloads single (Rolling In The Deep), two more five-million plus downloads singles (Someone Like You, Set Fire To The Rain) and another two-million downloads single (Rumour Has It).

This does not count the downloads from unofficial releases AAA and Pop Radio started playing after Adele and her label officially stopped promoting 21.

The Album of the decade IS 21 and it will remain as such for the rest of it.

Katy, Taylor, Beyonce, Rihanna, etc. Have done very well with their releases this decade but Adele just destroyed all charts.
