And why are they underpaid to the point they can't pay taxes? Oh that's right b/c the supply for immigrants has increased the demand for jobs pushing down wages. More people=lower wages. Wages will never go up to new level if more people are added to the economy.
|
That is an excellent point. This is why getting immigrants on the record is important. They will now have to be paid as though they were citizens if the government improves the immigration laws.

Maybe if the US made it easier to become American citizens the country could earn more tax money. And as a child of immigrants who came here, went to university and earn six figures I'm revolting.
What makes someone American?

Yes, it's theirs to use, but not theirs to fund? What about the teacher who has to use her own money to by school supplies for her class b/c the school population has ballooned and the govt can't pick up the tab? I guess it's cool that she is negatively affected so immigrants can have a better life.

Yes it is.
Immigrants are paying for those government resources that they are not getting back. What makes it worse is, America is getting wealthy off these immigrants.
On top of that, immigrants are not even using wel-fare like native born Americans.

Percent-wise maybe, but person for person it's the largest influx there has ever been. Immigrants are paying for some resources, but not as much as average Americans. How are they paying for social secutrity, etc. without an SSN? And they shouldn't be using welfare at at all, regardless of the how it stacks up to citizens.

The competition will however be the same.Though I think the lower than minimum wage jobs will have a raise.

That's ridiculous, the US economy is growing really fast. And the fastest growing sector, the tech field wants to higher more immigrants. You know why? Because Americans don't go in those fields enough, those immigrants you don't really want are actually improving the one thing America is ahead of. Companies like Facebook, and Google and so on want this. But lets slow down immigration and have this companies suffer. What do they do? Go oversees, like they did with manufacturing. Then who gets hurt? Americans.
|
That's not true. Immigrants will work for dirt cheap and because of their immigrant status. These immigrant tech workers are basically slaves to the company for at least several years once they get hired because of their immigration status.
One of my good developer friends I used to work with at NYT wanted to leave his company but couldn't until he had been in the US a certain amount of time for citizenship reasons. If he would've tried to leave for another company he would have to go home for several months and by then someone else would be hired in his spot at the new employer.
So these immigrants will put up with a lot more BS than an American tech worker, make far less money and in many cases stay at companies way longer than the average tech worker even in subpar conditions. However, their code sucks in many cases....so much so companies had to stop outsourcing their development.

|
You know what, you're making big claims so lets use sources to back them up.
In case you did not know, in about a few more years the US working population will decline. The reason is because many of those jobs belonged to baby boomers, having immigrants help fill those jobs along with Americans would stabilize the economy, while allowing even more jobs for Americans. In fact immigrants don't even compete with Americans for jobs.
Quote:
Research shows that immigrants complement, rather than compete with, native-born American workers—even less-skilled workers. Research by renowned economists such as David Card, Gianmarco Ottaviano, Giovanni Peri, and Heidi Shierholz shows that American workers are not harmed by—and may even benefit from—immigration. This is because immigrants tend to complement the skillsets of American workers, thus helping them be more productive.

Newsflash, we don't want immigrant to fill the jobs left open by the Boomers, we want the 5% unemployed, 11% underemployed to move up and fill those jobs. Are you really trying to argue they don't compete for jobs, and in fact create jobs. How? How is that possible?
We need jobs of all education levels open to Americans. Productivity means nothing, if they don't have a job to productive at.

Can we not categorise white and black, based on an opinion? It's not like all whites share it. Thanks.

lol.
The legal immigrants are what's continuing to keep the U.S.A. on top of innovation. We skim the cream of the crop in terms of innovative entrepreneurs, scientists, etc every single day. Most college graduates of the U.S. today are still not good enough to be used by the most high growth job sectors, so they HAVE to hire from abroad.
The illegal immigrants are keeping our crops cheap and inflation down (especially food). Without their diligent labor here and in other areas, you would see the cost of living going up for every single person. Your dollar would barely buy you 2 bananas.
Americans, collectively, should pick up the slack. Don't blame immigrants for doing things we should be doing better than we are and helping our country in the process.

Problem is they don't track people that stopped looking for work and underemployment. There are millions of jobs lost that will not come back due to companies restructuring. To be honest we have not hired much either we just work a bit harder and more efficient.
295,000 jobs are not that impressive considering we need to add around 120-160k a month to keep up with people entering the job market though population growth. Then you need to look at the quality of these jobs and who is getting them. I quick look at that report shows me that most of the jobs are low paying jobs. Income growth is still way below where it should be.
Are things getting better sure everyone knew eventually things would have to turn around but this is not a great report especially when 295,000 jobs created crushes their expectations. When the unemployment average drops on a low number like this it just tells me that just as many people stopped looking for work.
