Racism is not a moot subject.

Economic inequality is tied in with race, gender, etc, especially in countries in North and South America. Addressing these issues is necessary to address economic and social equality.
One of reasons why certain Asian-American groups like Indians and Taiwanese do well in the US is because, like early German immigrants in the US, they stick to their own and avoided bigotry by doing so, which allowed them to perform well. Other groups try to integrate and fail because mainstream America is not interested in them. It's the same issue with gender. Women have equal rights on paper, but most people are not interested in seeing women excel.
