Poll: Is Beyoncé the present day Madonna--

--in terms of star power? The "Why compare your fave..." thread got me thinking. For several decades beginning from Madonna's debut, she was the standard of a SUPERSTAR. Other major stars, such as Mariah and Janet, were often overshadowed (very talented and very poplar nevertheless) by Madonna undeniably being the standard of being "THE" superstar.

Today, artists who are her peers and those too who are newer to the industry are always compared to Beyoncé's level of superstardom. It seems that she may have become the present day standard of a SUPERSTAR; as THE superstar.

So is Beyoncé really the present day Madonna in terms of star power? My answer is yes. Do you agree, or shall you beg to differ?

That's why we constantly see "Beyonce vs _____" threads she's the standard and no one is up to par

No. Her star power is vastly overrated and nothing compared to, say, Britney's from 2007. She's got great longevity, like Madonna, but she's not the standard for a superstar this generation.

No. If Beyonce had some massive star power she would at least owned a year like Madonna did as a top female artist, and actually have an album that's sold over 10 million copies to her name like Madge. Actual mega stars have major success not above average success like Bey.

Honestly the answer if RIhanna.

ANd to be objective janet had more stage presences and the ability to perform better than Madonna however Madonna was smarter at marketing and making impactful influential moments more memorable...which makes me believe Rihanna.
Beyonce is a better tour performer than Rihanna but Rihanna has the fashion game/hits/cultural impact influence and memorable videos down even when some might be stronger than her in some areas.

To me, Janet's top videos were better than Madonna but Madonna had more to offer and was recognized for that.

Rihanna is the most global super mega star of this decade, last decade it was Britney which was closer to what Madonna was, but Rihanna has owned this decade more than anyone else. The most relevant musician!

No not really. Even though highly successful she has always been overshadowed at some particular point by someone else unlike Madonna.
She's not the best selling female artist of her time as Madonna was, Rihanna, Britney have sold more records than her.
She's this generation's Tina Turner, great performer, big tours.

Numbers don't determine it though. It's the way you are viewed as a whole by the majority/GP, and Beyoncé surpasses Rih in that by far in my opinion. I believe most people think of Beyoncé as a SUPERSTAR. But lbr, as great and as relevant as Rih is, does anybody aside from stans and fans think of her as THE mega star?
