Both singers have toyed with comedy roles - Simpson starred in the films Major Movie Star, Blonde Ambition and Employee of the Month, and Spears won over TV critics when she played a ditzy secretary in U.S. sitcom How I Met Your Mother last year (08).

A source says, "Britney seems genuinely interested in working with her. She's said they'll talk further when she finishes her Circus tour. "And Jessica wants to prove to the world that she's a talented, funny actress, not just some silly airhead."
