The keyboards on
Control are the most '80s thing ever after the Flock of Seagulls haircut. The songs are great, but the production is so bloody tacky.
Rhythm Nation is good, but is so over-earnest it's difficult to take any of it seriously. It ends up sounding cheesy instead of moving, not aided by the production either.

The Velvet Rope are her only legitimately great albums, and even then they're both marred by the interludes, some stilted songwriting and more tacky production.
Everything she did before and after those records is absolute trash.
