1. "What It Feels Like for a Girl" (2001)
Madonna's last video to be banned from MTV proved she was capable of creating an artistic statement with her then-husband Guy Ritchie that amounted to more than "Swept Away." As a dead-eyed heroine who goes on a rampage with an elderly accomplice, Madonna gives a chilling performance and reminds you of the steely self-possession and fearless introspection beneath her ebullient exterior. This is a bracing video paired brilliantly with a dark remix of her 2001 single.
