I understand that humans need roads sadly to travel and function, but aren't there too many? There are like thousands of options to travel from point A to point B, and wild animals find it very difficult to cross these messes of roads. Not to mention the more the roads, the more the costs of maintenance etc.

In America, it'd be nice if the money spent on building roads was spent on alternative forms of transportation such as trains, but I don't think that'll happen for a while.
A world reliant on oil = a world reliant on roads and tracks. I mean unless you want to bush bash to go visit your friends, you're probably gonna prefer a nice cleared road.
