Some people see it as a form of disrespect. Like if you purposely wear something that others might deem offensive. Clothing with sexual overtones, foul language, etc. that sort of clothes isn't the type you'd wear around a priest, rabbi, pastor, etc. just because you don't want to bluntly rub it in their face.
