It has been confirmed by The Sun today that Zayn has been working on a side project with Naughty Boy and has offered up his vocals for a track on Naughty Boy’s second studio album.
We know that the pair have worked together in the past on a One Direction track that didn’t make the cut for their latest album, but it finally looks like a collaboration is going to be put out.
Earlier this week One Direction boss Simon Cowell gave the band the green light to do solo projects - as long as for now they don't split.
The X Factor mogul, who signed the five lads after they appeared on the show in 2010 says that it's healthy for the band to follow their separate dreams.
Simon, 55 said: You can’t knock what One Direction are doing. They’re making great records and I think that’s why they’re still so popular.
“I hear speculation all the time that they’re going solo. My advice is they should stay together but still do things they want as a little bit on the side.”
Going solo at this time would be a huge mistake. If they did at the very most 1 would succeed. Doing side projects first is a great way for them to experiment with their own individual sound and create a niche following based on their music style before breaking away .

This. Zayn has the voice and the look and he can always improve his writing chops in time. The same for Harry. The others probably won't succeed without each other sadly.
