Literally no Gaga fans are taking what she said out of context. What she said is very clear and easy to understand. What she said is also wrong.

No one would dare to say a degrading remark about being black or dare to say a degrading remark on Instagram about someone being gay.

What world does she live in where people "don't dare say a degrading mark about being black or gay"? Not this world, for sure.

What's the difference between that and racism, or any discrimination? They're judging me by my age. I don't understand. I'm trying to get my head around it.

There are many differences between ageism and racism and ageism and homophobia. Many of the differences have been posted in this thread.

We still live in a very sexist society. It's just like I said. It's the last great frontier. Because women, generally, when they reach a certain age, have accepted that they're not allowed to behave a certain way. But I don't follow the rules. I never did, and I'm not going to start.

She is completely right here, thus why no one in this thread is contesting this quote.
Ironically, it's the Madonna fans taking what she's saying out of context because that's the only way they can defend her.

Wrong wrong wrong. The great majority of "nursing homes" are not up to date with proper inspection and lack the resources it should have to properly maintain itself. The lack of staff due to poor funding hurts the residents' level of care.
Elder abuse is way more common than one thinks, and most residents are put in a home by their younger families as a false "solution." Older persons who are disabled in some capacity (such as a fall) are often placed by social workers in nursing homes despite better alternatives that could be used for them to remain in their home with assisted care. They are not given much input in their life as the government/society puts their trusts in younger families' and social workers who may not have the person's best interest in mind.
Source -- I have a degree in gerontology. I studied this for years and know my ****.
Madonna is correct that she is not given the same opportunities and support she would have if a younger person had done the same thing. (think younger popstars' sexuality enhancing their career). Ageism is a form of institutionalized discrimination, and older women face more difficulty than men.
What she is saying about this is correct, however racism/homophobia has a harsher history and is a target of current bigotry that she should not underwhelm.

****** nursing homes are not a product of ageism, they're a product of a ****** system not being regulated properly. It's also a product of family members being lazy and not wanting to shell out extra money for competent nursing homes. And if someone wants to put their family member in a nursing home, that's on them and that's their issue. It has nothing to do with ageism and everything to do with convenience and selfishness.
Again, though, this has nothing to do with Madonna because she's an able-bodied woman. She's not ELDERLY, she's just older.
Ageism is not a form of institutionalized discrimination. Please stop. Like has been said, there are no laws keeping the elderly from doing what they want, no one is killing the elderly for being elderly, etc. The elderly are not discriminated against.
