This is definitely my favourite Kelly album i'd say. It just feels....different to me for some reason.
But it works really well as a whole, and i love how her voice sounds, better than ever really
Heartbeat Song: 9/10
The verses of the song are perfection, especially the pre-chorus if anything. The chorus is good but for such good verses it is lackluster. I love the song so much, but it is just missing a little bit of something that would make it a 10. It is such a feel good fun song, and that makes me love it.
Invincible: 9/10
The best thing about this song is the vocals. They are just fantastic and honestly cement Kelly as one of the best vocalists out there. I can hear the Sia influence in it for sure. The only thing keeping it from being a 10 is that I feel like it is not as catchy as it could be. The chorus once again needed to be stronger. But overall another inspiring masterpiece by queen Kelly.
Something: 10/10
My first 10/10 on the album. I love the message of the song. It is very uplifting. It isn't catchy, but it isn't meant to be in my opinion. It is just a beautiful song overall. Simple as that.
Take You High: 10/10
On first listen I was not feeling this... and then the drop happens. The drop is really what makes this song amazing. But then the bridge slays me too. As I listen to the song I literally feel like I am ascending and flying. The buildup is amazing. This is a really different offering from Kelly for the good and one of my favorites.
Piece by Piece: 10/10
The instant I heard this I thought of Because of You right away. Not sonically but lyrically. The song is very emotional in a good way. This is my favorite song on the album easily. I keep coming back to this one to listen over and over again. The last minute of the song's lyrics almost make me cry they are so personal.
Run Run Run: 9/10
The only thing I can criticize about this song is that I am not a fan of artists putting covers on their albums. But honestly Kelly does this song a lot of justice. Especially once the drums kick in. The song is then taken to another level and almost makes it perfect. John Legend adds to the song and I enjoy him as a feature.
I Had a Dream: 8/10
My least favorite song on the album. Still really good and I like the message, but I do not like the chorus that much. Very soulful like I felt it was supposed to be. I don't really have much to say about it honestly.
Let Your Tears Fall: 9/10
A really good mid album track. The chorus is really catchy to me and cute. I love the powerful vocals in the chorus. It has a really cute message and I just think is a simple fun track.
Tightrope: 8/10
A great ballad on the album! One of the weaker moments of the album though. I will try to make my self love it but for now it has a cute message and is emotional.
War Paint: 10/10
Instant fantastic track. Love the lyrics and the battle like feeling of the track. Very upbeat and fun.
Dance With Me: 10/10
Along with Piece by Piece, this is my favorite track. I did not expect this slayage. Besides the Breakaway songs, this is one of my favorite Kelly songs ever on just a few listens. The entire thing is powerful and catchy and makes me want to dance!
Nostalgic: 8/10
Great track! Also one of the weaker moments on the album in my opinion. Upbeat and fun message once again, but it is just missing something to make it perfect.
Good Goes the Bye: 10/10
Honestly was not feeling the demo, but Kelly did the song so much justice on the final version. I don't know what it is exactly but I love it.
Bad Reputation: 10/10
I honestly love the bonus tracks more than some of the album tracks. Such a unique track instrumental wise. I love the horns.
In the Blue: 10/10
My favorite bonus track. The chorus gets me. It makes me emotional thinking of someone special to me. Should have been an album track for sure instead of tightrope.
Second Wind: 10/10
Powerful inspiring track! Not sure entirely if it should have been an album track, but it is really a great track either way.
Overall: 9.375
Overall one of Kelly's best album which I'm sure will grow on me more and more. But some of the tracks are lacking just a little bit.
Intro:
Lead single "Heartbeat Song" got me kind of pumped for this album then the pre-release tracks leading up to its release came and I was slayed especially with "Invincible" and "Piece By Piece". Prior to listening to this album. I have to say, I didn't like "Take You High" until I listened to the full album. I listened to Kelly's complete discography and decided I love My December the most out of all her bodies of work...

I found this album to be very impressive. It blew my mind in a lot of ways and I love how fresh it is to the pop world. Also, I can't even at "Heartbeat Song" being the second worst song after "Tightrope". Perfect plan to serve the best album of your career though.

Overall I was expecting something different from the tracks that we were getting. It's definitely not her best work. Might be her worst In my opinion. Its overall a severely generic album. I see now why they chose the songs they did for people to hear. It made it seem like it was going to be different artistically. I'll take a more rock/soul influenced Kelly any day over this. I was excited with the tracks we got but now I'm just ehhh…But Kelly herself said that she was just given music from writers. I'll wait for the next go around for something better. Sorry if I sound bitter but this album is really disappointing knowing what she's capable of as an artist. She can definitely do SO much better.
