Yes or no?

I believe forcing a child to practice any kind of religion or taking them to church (ANY kind of church) is wrong. A baby, toddler, or child aged 5-12 should not have any religion forced on them. I believe in letting children choose their own religion when they are teenagers because a child cannot be religious, it's just something a parent tells them. I also think it's wrong because look at gay teen suicides. Most are caused by parents teaching their religion to their children.

Agreed. People are free to believe what they want but don't force it down your children's throats just because it's what you feel is right. Not fair to the child.

Teaching a child about religion and forcing them into a religion are different things.

I think parents should tell kids people have many different religions when they see people with different religions in public, but I should and could have worded the thread better.

I believe children should be educated on all religions (but we all know most parents are way too self-interested to care about what the child actually needs) but I think it is way more "damaging" (?) to force your religion upon a child than to teach them nothing about it at all.

Honestly, if most children nowadays were raised without religious influence, I believe that when given the choice, most would choose a non-religious life.

Show them all the options and let them make up their own mind.

First of all, children don't have the maturity to make such decisions, let alone understand the concept of anything extra-wordly.

It's important to teach MORALS that your religion promotes to your children at that very young age. As they grow up, then they can learn about the details, the interpretations of their Holy Book, and different aspects of other religions as comparisons.

What I think. Throw out the Bible, Quran, Satanic Bible, etc. and let them choose what religion they want to be when they want to make that decision. Parents who take their seven year old's to church just scare me.

Absolutely. You have the right to raise your children within your own belief system. Just because others disagree with that does not mean you should not be allowed to encourage them to practice your lifestyle while they are in your care.

Absolutely not! You must let your child take in the world, and interpret it in their own way. You must let a child form morals and beliefs through experiences. You should not quickly close a child's mind off by forcing a belief system on them!

And no it's not wrong. People are out of control with this 'kids should decide things for themselves' mess like what does it even mean to 'raise' a child then? The same way you teach a child a life lesson, how to speak to people respectfully, to obey authorities, to not steal/harm/etc., you teach them your beliefs.

Even if you're not religious, it only makes like TOTAL sense that will you project on your child the same values that you believe got you through life. Like this is a no-brainer to me.
